Elliptic has joined forces with line DesignArt Networks, a leading provider of highly integrated SoCs to integrate a comprehensive security solution targeting advanced 3GPP HetNet infrastructure products.

DesignArt Networks has licensed Elliptic’s high performance Security Protocol Accelerator for LTE (SPAcc-LTE) for use in its DAN3000 family of SoCs, targeting 3G and 4G base stations for the mobile HetNet infrastructure, as well as multi-gigabit unified mobile backhaul solutions.

High-speed mobile data services require base stations to process more than 1 Gbps of 4G service access traffic, while simultaneously supporting 3G service access in mixed HetNet deployments. Elliptic’s SPAcc-LTE security engine meets these capacity and 3GPP standards support requirements, including the support for emerging LTE Advanced standards. The engine addresses the complex security requirements of highly integrated, high-performance SoC products with many powerful features including scatter-gather DMA, QoS for enhanced traffic management support and virtualization designed to allow sharing between multiple CPUs.

On October 10-14, the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) held its first DTCP Plugfest. This much anticipated and long expected event has facilitated ad-hoc testing between the DTCP Adopters and provided access to Intel test tools. The event was also a venue to engage with experts and discuss trends related to DTCP-IP, a key content protection security technology designed to protect high-value digital content against theft while it is moved between home entertainment devices.

The event was hosted at the Cable Television Laboratories in Louisville, CO, which provided excellent facilities and a very friendly atmosphere.

My focus was on testing Elliptic’s DTCP-IP SDK product and making sure that our sample applications were compatible with other vendors’ applications. I also was very keen to attend the DTCP-IP Plus presentation and learn first-hand about the new features and applications of this extensive specification update.

During the two days at the plugfest we have found a couple of interoperability issues in our product which we have addressed since then. We also helped to detect one interesting issue with the Intel test tool set. That made us feel good… to have contributed to a good cause.

I also took this valuable opportunity to communicate with technical people who are directly responsible for writing and updating the specification, and discuss various topics related to interpreting the specification and implementing it in real applications.

One specific area I was interested in clarifying was the status of the Additional Localization flag of the Device Certificate. This flag, if set, is responsible for invoking the AKE RTT protocol between DTCP-IP devices during the authentication phase. The specification defined this flag as optional and also was optional with the Device Key Set order form. After an interesting discussion with DTLA technical experts it became apparent that this flag is actually mandatory for all DTCP-IP devices.

Last but not least I would like to thank the enthusiastic DTLA president and founder Stephen Balogh for providing a first class facility and an opportunity to discuss and resolve various questions and issues.Oct18 Igor and Stephen Balogh-300x168

A very useful event indeed…

Elliptic Technologies continues to endorse this movement and has joined the growing list of 2011 NCSAM Champions to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security, cyber safety and cyber ethics and to promote better security practices for online activities.

October has been designated as the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), in an effort to promote the message that everyone, from individuals to businesses and government organizations, has a shared responsibility to protect the cyber space.

Elliptic Technologies unveiled today its latest security engine called the Multi-Packet Manager, a highly programmable and efficient security protocol accelerator with enhanced processing capabilities for multiple data streams. The engine is perfectly suited for applications that deal with multiple active connections and significant traffic load on different contexts, such as 4G LTE-Advanced wireless cellular base stations and femtocells.

The Multi-Packet Manager is specifically designed to reduce the CPU and software loads and to improve the system level latencies via autonomous packet processing and automated key caching mechanisms. The Multi-Packet Manager allows the host processor to dynamically add network packets to be processed while the security engine is busy processing data. Intelligent caching and pre-fetching reduces the bus traffic, internal buffering and power consumption without increasing the software load in a system.
