Presentation on MACsec security protocol and panel discussions on Ethernet Security

Elliptic Technologies announced the company will present at the Ethernet Technology Summit 2013, April 2-4, in Santa Clara, California.

Jean-Pierre Thibault, Senior Hardware Architect at Elliptic Technologies, will present and join panelists for the Ethernet Security session #A-202 scheduled for April 4, 2013.

The paper titled "Designing MACsec in" concerns the IEEE 802.1AE security standard (also known as MACsec) which protects data traversing Ethernet systems. The paper will discuss MACsec in an era of very high throughput data connections, specifically 10/40/100 Gbps traffic. To achieve high throughput, MACsec must be implemented in hardware. Naturally, MACsec is intended to be implemented in a MAC, but sometimes this is not possible or desirable, as when MACsec functionality is added to existing systems. Fortunately, there are other options available to chip and system architects. The presentation will explain these options, along with their respective advantages and drawbacks.

Elliptic introduced a new highly-integrated IPsec/TLS Multi-Protocol Security Engine to address today's security needs for a wide range of applications including; residential gateways, VPN and gateway appliances, LTE small cells, terminal servers and thin clients. The SPP-330 Security Engine expands Elliptic's broad Security Protocol Processors (SPP) family targeted at ASIC manufacturers and FPGA designers, and supports the Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) protocol as well as the Transport Layer Security (TLS), Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) application layer protocols.

Digital security is critical in the current online landscape of social, multimedia and business networks. People and businesses are connecting and interacting with each other - anytime and anywhere. New classes of always-connected embedded devices are emerging, making these interactions even more complex. Greater protection of privacy and control of information is required given that voice, data, sound and video are now simultaneously carried over the Internet with increasing speed and at higher data rates. Therefore, the need for more robust security solutions is crucial and continues to grow.

The SPP-330 is a versatile security solution that allows SoC manufacturers to efficiently balance power, performance and silicon area while supporting multiple protocols to secure data for advanced technologies and delivering complete, scalable and cost-effective security solutions. This compact Security Engine offers Gigabit range performance for ESP/AH and TLS/SSL/DTLS protocols with powerful features including state-of-the-art scatter-gather DMA, interrupt coalescence and Quality of Service (QoS) for enhanced traffic management. The SPP-330 is delivered with software development kits, tools and drivers allowing seamless system integration into embedded Linux environments and ARM-based platforms.

Elliptic will demonstrate its Security Engines and Content Protection solutions at the Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Spain (Feb 25 – 28) at Booth # 7F24.

Elliptic, a leader in the development, adoption and compliance of HDCP has announced support for the recently released High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection 2.2 (HDCP 2.2) specification for premium content delivery and distribution.

HDCP technologies protect premium content such as digital motion pictures, television programs and audio against unauthorized interception and copying between connected devices including set top boxes, smart phones, tablets and digital TVs. HDCP has broad industry support from the major players in the digital entertainment value chain, including motion picture studios, semiconductor companies and consumer electronics manufacturers. The specification is endorsed by Sony, Panasonic, Intel and content owners such as Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment and others.

Released just a month ago, HDCP 2.2 includes a number of enhancements and updates to the HDCP Interface Independent Adaptation (HDCP IIA) specification. For instance, HDCP security is now required for Wi-Fi Display (WFD) Miracast™ enabled devices. WFD/Miracast is an industry-wide solution for seamlessly displaying premium content between devices without cables or a network connection.

Elliptic's tVault™ HDCP solution supports HDCP 2.2 and all mandatory elements of copy protection as well as enhanced locality check features and robustness rules support. The solution runs efficiently in limited resource environments and it can be implemented within frameworks such as ARM TrustZone™, where security critical components are embedded and executed in trusted environments and non-critical components are executed by the host OS, such as Android.
